Handbook of Information Management, Edited by Alison Scammell, June 2001. (Published by Aslib, The Association for Information Management, Staple Hall, Stone House Court, London EC3A 7PB, UK— www.aslib.com/pubs/index.html). This is the 8th edition of Aslib’s flagship work, Handbook of Special Librarianship and Information Work, which has provided the seminal text on modern information theory, practice, and procedure since 1957. The chapter on Conducting Information Needs Assessments was contributed by Jan Sykes.

Result of SLA Endowment Fund grant awarded to Lorri Zipperer and Jan Sykes to study the relevance of systems thinking principles and practices to information professionals.  SLA competencies are correlated to systems thinking principles and an assessment instrument is provided for information professionals to gauge their acceptance of systems thinking behaviors.
